Entomolog Thomas J. Simonsen er seniorforsker og kurator med ansvar for den entomologiske tørsamling. Han har mere end 20 års erfaring med diversitets- og evolutionsstudier af insekter. Hans forskningserfaring spænder fra klassisk taxonomi og faunistik, over sammenlignende morfologi og anatomi (inkl. puppe embryologi), til fylogeni, biogeografi, fylogeografi, øko-evolution og artsdannelse. Hans nuværende forskning er fokuseret på diversitet og udbredelseshistorie af nordeuropæiske insketer, specielt med henblik på artsdannelse og -adskillelse samt effekter af klima- og landskabsforandringer (fortidige, såvel som nutidige og fremtidige).
