The dragon has landed at Natural History Museum Aarhus
Mermaids, unicorns, dragons and other mythic creatures greats you, when the gates to fairytale land open wide and reveal an amazing exhibition merging science and fantasy. You’re invited to explore the edge of the known and the unknown.
It's far from every day, you can face an enormous dragon with wings spanning over six meters. Or get up close with the great and majestic unicorn white as snow. Visiting the world of impressive models of mythic creatures, Natural History Museum Aarhus encourages children of all ages to challenge their understanding of nature and science. What do we know for a fact? And what is in fact a myth?
Our special exhibition Dragons and other mythic creatures speaks to both children and adults. Kids are impressed by the gigantic flying eagle, The Roc, and the enormous ape, Gigantopithecus, and teenagers and adults dive into the magnificent stories about both the scientific and cultural history and impact of the mythic creatures from all over the world.
“We use our imagination to mirror our own world. That’s why Natural History Museum Aarhus exhibits models of mythic creatures to fascinate and nurture the budding interest for nature within children of all ages.” Bo Skaarup, Museum Director
Get to know even more about mythic creatures during the summer holidays
Every day, ending on August 7th, our superb nature guides invite you to join free talks about selected creatures. You will get the full backstory behind the myths, and they will answer all the questions you may have. Talks are focused on children, but will include fun facts and information that will come in handy for adults as well. On Wednesdays, ending August 3rd, talks are replaced by dissections. A perfect opportunity to explore the anatomy of a broad variety of species. Dissections are projected on a big screen, so everybody gets a front row experience, and all questions are welcome!
